Pre-Season
Beach huts on Mudeford Spit adjoining Hengistbury Head near Christchurch in Dorset, one side has views across the sandy dunes towards the beach and sea whilst the other looks towards Christchurch harbour.
There's no access or parking for cars, people using the huts are allowed to drive down for loading/unloading purposes only, so it's either walk or cycle from the car park (3.7 miles round trip), a trip on the 'land train' or during the peak months a short ferry crossing from Mudeford quay. In stark contrast to summertime during the winter months the area is almost deserted, many of the huts are boarded up with their associated leisure items stowed away, the cafe is closed and the ferry only operates on weekends if the weather is favourable.
I wanted to capture this location pre-season without the usual holidaymakers, day visitors and temporary residents around. I waited for a foggy morning to enhance the feeling of emptyness and to simplify the scene.
